Overview
Sydney Harbour shapes nearly everything about the city — ferries substitute for much of the bus network, and the Opera House and Harbour Bridge share the same short stretch of waterfront. Just twenty minutes from downtown, Bondi Beach and the coastal walk to Coogee show a completely different, laid-back side of the city.
Getting There
Sydney Airport (SYD) connects to the city center via train in about 15 minutes. Ferries, trains, and buses are all covered by a single Opal card, and the ferry to Manly is one of the best-value harbor views in the city.
Top Things to Do
- Walk across the Harbour Bridge, or climb it for a paid, guided view from the top.
- Take a ferry to Manly and walk the Manly Scenic Walkway along the coast.
- Walk the Bondi to Coogee coastal path, stopping at Bronte Beach roughly halfway.
- Catch a performance or a guided tour at the Sydney Opera House.
Local Tips
Sun exposure is stronger than it feels — reapply sunscreen even on overcast days at the beach. Ferries are often faster and more scenic than buses for harborside destinations; check the Opal network map before booking a taxi.
