Overview
Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour skyline is one of the most photographed views in the world, but the city's other half — green, hilly, and covered in hiking trails — is only a short bus ride from the density of Central or Mong Kok. Dim sum, the Star Ferry, and the tram up to Victoria Peak are the classics for good reason.
Getting There
Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) connects to the city via the Airport Express train, reaching Central in about 24 minutes. The MTR subway, trams, and the harbor's Star Ferry cover the rest of the city cheaply and reliably.
Top Things to Do
- Ride the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour for one of the cheapest great views in travel.
- Take the Peak Tram up to Victoria Peak, ideally near sunset for the skyline lighting up after dark.
- Order dim sum at a traditional teahouse rather than a modern restaurant for the full trolley-cart experience.
- Hike a section of the Dragon's Back trail on Hong Kong Island for sea views away from the skyline.
Local Tips
The Octopus card works across nearly all public transport and many convenience stores. Dim sum is typically a breakfast or lunch tradition — many teahouses stop serving it by mid-afternoon.
